A holiday table isn't complete without festive desserts! In the last round of 2020's Pairing Throwdown, Corey and Rachel brought their best with sweet treats.
Both competitors baked the traditional, show-stopping dessert Yule logs. Each baker brought their own spin to this Christmas cake with the intent of winning it all. With an equal amount of wins under their belts, this round determined our 2020 champ.
Corey paired his decadent chocolate Yule log with sour cherries alongside the vibrant red blend, '17 Harbinger. With notes of stewed blueberries and a touch of vanilla, this medium-bodied red complemented the cake's luscious flavors.
Rachel opted for a fun twist with her chocolate and mulled wine infused Yule log served with a berry compote! Holiday Spirit, a sweet red spiced “glühwein”, was an obvious wine pairing for Rachel as it showcases classic flavors of the season including cinnamon and clove.
When it came time for judging, Rachel's delightful bake awarded her the title of 2020's Pairing Throw Down Champ!
